Sinai Brookline Religious School FAQs
Questions about the Sinai Brookline Religious School? Here are some answers.
Thank you for your interest in the Sinai Brookline Religious School. We aim to engage the entire family in our community and their children’s learning while striving to meet them where they are through our student-centered learning and financial accommodation. Below you can find answers to some frequently asked questions. For more information please email jenzak@sinaibrookline.org or call us. We are happy to have a conversation with you to find ways to accommodate your family.
What is the cost of enrollment?
Families are required to be members of our synagogue to enroll in the religious school. The cost of religious school tuition is $1250. For families who cannot afford this sum, we are happy to work with you to make religious school affordable.Â
What grades do the religious school go through?
Religious school begins with Kindergarten and goes through 8th grade. For high school students, we have a special teen-oriented program known as Sinai U.Â
What are we committing to?
Our religious school meets on Sundays during the school year from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For grades 3-6, we have additional Tuesday classes from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 pm. If a student is unable to attend in person on Tuesdays, we offer a virtual option. Our 7th-grade class meets only on Sundays. For 8th-12th grades, we offer flexible programming throughout the year with our Sinai U Teen Program.
Is there a virtual option?
For students with special circumstances, such as transportation and health challenges, we offer a virtual option on Tuesdays. Please contact Jen Zak for details.
Is membership to Sinai Brookline required to enroll in the Religious School?
Yes, membership is required to enroll your child(ren) in the Religious School. We want the entire family to feel connected to our school and our community. Our membership model, called SinaiPromise, is a pledge we make to each other as a community to contribute what we can to support our temple, clergy, and programs. This means we provide the cost of running Sinai Brookline and the average amount each member household would need to contribute to sustain it for the coming year. Each member is then asked to contribute what they can to maintain our community. With this membership model, we hope membership is not financially prohibitive, but rather helps religious school families become a part of our community. Additionally, we have a lot of programming through our school for the whole family.
You can find more information about our membership model here and find our membership application here:
How else is the family involved in Religious School?
We do so much to engage the whole family including our Journeys Family Education program and community Havdalah programs, plus special events and intergenerational education.
What if my child is too young or too old for religious school?
We have a free monthly K’tonton program for kids ages 3-4 and our Sinai U program for grades 8-12. You can learn more about these programs on our website.
What academic support exists for students?
We are able to support students with a variety of different learning styles and needs, including providing accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans.
