Dr. Peter Ochs is the Edgar M. Bronfman Professor of Modern Judaic Studies Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia and the 2024-2025 Corcoran Visiting Chair in Christian-Jewish Relations at Boston College. He completed his PhD at Yale University and his MA in Jewish Thought at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Dr. Ochs’ work focuses include Jewish philosophy and theology, and Comparative Jewish-Christian-Muslim studies. His primary scholarship is in philosophy and scripture, termed “scripture-based reasoning.” He writes as a Jewish philosopher and Jewish theologian, with degrees in anthropology, rabbinics, and philosophy. He previously served as a visiting professor at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York.
Dr. Peter Ochs will join us as our Scholar in Residence during the Shabbat of Friday-Saturday, December 6-7, 2024. Dr. Ochs’ Friday talk will occur during Shabbat services, December 6, which will be held at 7:30pm with a dessert oneg following the service, and his Saturday session with us on Saturday, December 7 will be as a “lunch & learn” program, following our 9:30am Shabbat morning minyan, with lunch provided by the Adult Learning Committee.
