Dr. Mark Washofsky, professor of rabbinics at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, will give this year’s annual Beryl D. Cohon Memorial Lecture at Temple Sinai in Brookline, speaking on the topic of “Stem Cell Research & Jewish Law” at Temple Sinai on Friday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture is free and the public is welcome. Dr. Washofsky specializes in the literature of Jewish law (halakhah), and the application of legal theory to the understanding of the Jewish legal process. He is regarded as a leading scholar in the Reform movement on Jewish legal decisions, including biomedical ethics, business practices, and questions of Jewish peoplehood in the modern era, and is the author of “Jewish Living: A Guide to Contemporary Reform Practice.” In his lecture at Temple Sinai, Dr. Washofsky offers to guide his audience on a Reform roadmap to living a meaningful Jewish life in the modern world.
